      I have liked Patterson's Women's Murder Club (and his other books), Katherine Hall Page, Carolyn Hart, the Kinsey Millhone books, Agatha Christie. 2 drneutron , am.   No, you don't have to read them in order but I think you would have more background if you at least read 1st to Die before you jumped into the middle of the series. I'm on the 7th book and I read them all in order. 4th of July was my favorite book of the series. I personally prefer to read series books .
